Artist Statement

In my pieces, journeys, paths, and passages figure prominently. Early studies in photography and video, and later studies in cast metal sculpture gave me an appreciation for traditional materials and processes, as well as for the possibilities of digital media to create environments. The work of contemporary choreographers Liz Lerman, Trisha Brown, and Bill T. Jones had a profound influence on my emerging sculptural practice, and I began to incorporate concepts about gesture, movement, sound, and human relationships into site and environment. Many of my works are designed to move viewers through an experience. Over the last decade, I have created works that include interactive installations and performance pieces.
